The Thursday evening opening and keynote, as well as the speakers on Friday, will all be taking place in the Arts Building, Room 2039. That room was until recently named the Walton Lecture Theatre, but will be re-dedicated tonight as the J.M. Synge Lecture Theatre.

The J. M. Synge Centenary Symposium: Synge and Edwardian Ireland

The School of English at Trinity College, Dublin, is pleased to announce "The J. M. Synge Centenary Symposium: Synge and Edwardian Ireland," commemorating the 100th anniversary of Synge's death, and exploring his work amidst the particular contexts of Edwardian Ireland. With support from the Long Room Hub, the symposium will be taking place at Trinity College, Dublin on March 26-27, 2009. All talks will be taking place in room 2039 of the Arts Building (formerly the Walton Theatre, to be renamed the J.M. Synge Theatre).

The symposium begins on the evening of Thursday, March 26 with an opening and a keynote address by Terence Brown, followed by a reception in the Long Room of the Library. The symposium continues on Friday, March 27 with an interdisciplinary set of talks by Nicola Gordon Bowe, Adrian Frazier, Lucy McDiarmid, Anne Fogarty, David Fitzpatrick, and Harry White, and a roundtable featuring Declan Kiberd, W.J. McCormack, Anthony Roche, and Nicholas Grene.
